ABOUT SUNWIND SOLAR

SunWind Solar kits provide students with hands-on opportunities to experience solar energy being converted into electricity and mechanical motion. We produce five individual kits and two larger classroom kits for solar-powered learning.

SunWind Solar was founded by Michael Cooke in 1995, after his graduation as a mature student from a Bachelor of Education After-Degree program in Secondary Physical Sciences at the University of Alberta, Edmonton. During those two years, running a grant through the local chapter of the Solar Energy Society of Canada from the Science Alberta Foundation, he worked on a renewable energy kit for elementary schools, which led to the development of SolarDrive. This kit was geared toward a unit in the then-new Program of Studies for Grade Five, “Making Mechanisms that Move with Electricity.” From SolarDrive sprang other kits.

In his earlier years Michael had worked in resort hotels, on farms and ranches, at Sea, in air and marine shipping in the NorthWest Territories and the Arctic, and at several Northern mine warehouses…with a fair bit of travel time in between

SunWind Solar is located on Salt Spring Island, BC, in Canada.

SunWind ships into the United States and around the World to schools, school districts, universities, non-profits, government agencies, youth groups and summer camp programs.

We are also able to work with you in designing and supplying custom kits using our materials.

Some of our many satisfied customers include Bonneville Environmental Foundation, 4-H, Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs, NASA, the Quakers, and Duke University…and outreach in Africa through volunteer organizations.

We are always happy to hear from clients. If you have any questions, or wish to share with us your photos or videos of models made with SunWind kits, please contact us.
